So, for months Avery’s been singing the praises of soccer. It’s her thing. She plays on the Green Machines and she’s proud of it. So, all throughout the basketball season this winter, while she was having fun and enjoying every minute of it, she was still patiently waiting for soccer season to begin.
Now soccer season is here. And, well, it’s off to a rough start. With the weather being typical of spring but even wetter than usual, all the rain has turned the fields into mud pits. That means canceled practices and postponed games. We finally made it to our first game on Monday night (a makeup for a previously postponed match). Once again the weather didn’t cooperate, with cold wind whipping through our clothes and raindrops spitting in our faces. The kids also have barely been able to practice so there was a lot of confusion and not much cohesiveness. It was miserable for the parents to watch. And not so fun for the kids either. Avery admitted on the way home that NOW she likes basketball better. I couldn’t help but chuckle. Of course, the grass is always greener on the other side. And it will be soon enough with all this rain.
It will all be worth it when the sun does shine! I’ll wait with hopeful anticipation that a sunny day is coming soon.
